Founded in 2014 on the sun-kissed shores of the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia, the Sunshine Coast Guitar Orchestra (SCGO) has become a musical beacon, radiating a harmonious blend of inclusivity, talent, and community spirit. At its helm stands the awarded guitarist and composer, Andrew Veivers, whose passion for music and dedication to fostering a welcoming environment has defined the orchestra's identity.
Andrew Veivers, an acclaimed musician in his own right, founded the SCGO with a mission to create a community orchestra that transcends barriers. With open arms, the orchestra welcomes participants from all walks of life, regardless of their musical proficiency. From seasoned guitarists to those taking their first steps with the instrument, the SCGO thrives on diversity, bringing together a mosaic of individuals who share a common love for music.
What sets the SCGO apart is its unique approach to repertoire selection. Director Andrew Veivers collaborates with orchestra members, drawing inspiration from their interests and suggestions. The chosen pieces are then skillfully arranged to suit the abilities of the participants, ensuring that every member can contribute and flourish within the ensemble. This commitment to individuality within a collective musical framework is the essence of the SCGO.
The orchestra's repertoire mirrors its eclectic nature, encompassing a wide range of musical genres. From the rich tapestry of world music to the nostalgic tones of 1950s and 60s surf music, from the timeless elegance of classical compositions to the infectious rhythms of pop and film music, the SCGO embraces the universal language of music. This diversity is not just a showcase of the orchestra's technical prowess but also a celebration of the cultural richness embedded in each note.

What do you like about being part of the Sunshine Coast Guitar Orchestra?: The people that unite to create this “team” are all so diverse in their attitudes,
abilities, interests , backgrounds etc .... and as a result this lends itself to an extremely interesting conversation – both musically & otherwise ....on rehearsal
nights, socially when we have the opportunity to jam & when we perform publicly as an orchestra.
