Muses Trio 'Celebrating Clara' - Tuesday 20 August

Muses Trio celebrates Clara Schumann‘s 200th anniversary of birth with a performance of spoken word, diary extracts and her personal piano trio. Fragmented and reconstructed, with music by female composers inspired by her legacy: pianist, virtuoso, composer, wife to a very unstable genius, mother to eight. Clara Schumann (1819 –1896) was a German musician and composer, considered one of the most distinguished composers and pianists of the Romantic era. Christa Powell (violin), Louise King (cello), Therese Milanovic (piano).

Andrew Garton and his Pantheon of Swing showcase the classic small band music of the swing era with influences including Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, Illinois Jacquet, Billie Holiday and Count Basie. Corner Pocket Swing dance school will host a free beginner’s swing dance workshop before the concert. Learn lindy hop and vintage swing dances from the 1920s, 30s and 40s.

Fronted by singer-songwriter Emma-Louise, with Rupert Jenner on electric guitar, Toby Mellonie on double-bass, and Billy Bakos driving the drum beat, this 4 piece ‘filly-billy’ band is sweetening the palate of Bris-Vegas rockers. With their own high-energy brand of music, the Sugar Shakers represent the styles and sounds of the late 40s and early 50s. Enjoy a beginner’s rock ‘n’ roll dance workshop led by Breakaways Dance Club before the concert.
